Andre Morris is a Southern Oregon University Alumni, graduating with a degree in Business Administration in 2020. He originally came to Ashland in 2015, with goals to continue his lacrosse career after being recruited his senior year of high school.

The program was small, and only consisted of 13 players including himself. However during his freshman year at SOU, Andre helped bring the division II MCLA team to their first year in national playoffs. While playing his sophomore year, Andre badly tore his achilles. Resulting in surgery and a full year away from the sport to work through intensive physical therapy. Even when he couldn’t be on the field, Andre actively promoted the team and helped recruit new players. Introducing them to teammates and teaching them the love for the game. When asked the question of “How would you describe yourself in 5 words or less?”, Andre replied with “A hardworking, and fun-loving type of guy.” I believe this description to hold true, as I’ve watched the man pursue through adversity and make the best of every opportunity thrown in his direction.

While attending college as a student athlete, Andre additionally worked a variety of jobs to pay for his education. These jobs included a multitude of roles from sports field and turf construction, sales consultant at Men’s Warehouse, and cannabis cultivation on OLCC farms. Andre has been able to gain valuable experience in many different fields, helping him develop an understanding of what type of trade he wants to pursue in his future career.

Currently, Andre is working as a snowboard instructor and liftee at Mt. Ashland. He grew a passion for snowboarding while living in Southern Oregon, and was very excited to work at the mountain while enjoying his first year free of concerns from school or sports. Getting to fully enjoy the beautiful outdoors Ashland provides and teaching his girlfriend how to ride.

Andre is very passionate about cannabis, and expects to start a medical grow of his own very soon. Cannabis helped Andre work through serious sports injuries and surgeries, while additionally aiding with the mental stress associated with the physical therapy and rehab. He says that cannabis seemed like a better alternative to the traditional painkillers prescribed for physical injuries. He wanted to find something that was less addictive and intense, while still relieving him of his pains and stress. He found his love for growing while working as an OLCC farmer, finding the work to be therapeutic, even though it can require a lot of hard labor. After experiencing the benefits of the plant, and seeing how many utilities can be innovated from the remaining plant materials after harvest. Andre is excited to break into the medical field of cannabis and get the opportunity to provide others with the plant.
